Egg Freezing in Barcelona 2026: Cost, What's Included and the Law
What egg freezing costs in Barcelona in 2026, what packages include, medication and storage fees, how Spanish law treats frozen eggs and what the evidence says.
The short answer
In 2026 two Barcelona clinics advertise one egg freezing cycle from about 2,570 and 2,695 euros with two to three years of storage, while other guides put the procedure at 3,500 to 4,700 euros, medication at 800 to 1,400 euros and storage at 200 to 600 euros a year. Thawing, fertilisation and transfer are extra, and Spanish law ties storage and use to medical criteria and health authority approval, with a bill pending to change it.
Egg freezing in Barcelona is advertised from about 2,570 to 2,695 euros for one cycle in 2026, but the realistic total is usually higher once medication, storage and later use are counted, with guides putting the procedure at 3,500 to 4,700 euros, medication at 800 to 1,400 euros and storage at 200 to 600 euros a year. This guide compares the published prices, shows what packages do and do not include, explains how Spanish law treats frozen eggs, summarises what regulators and clinics say about success and risk, and lists questions to ask before you commit. It is general information, not medical advice, and only a fertility specialist can tell you what is right for you. Egg freezing cannot promise a future pregnancy.
How much does egg freezing cost in Barcelona in 2026?
Roughly 2,500 to 4,700 euros for the cycle itself, depending on whether medication and storage are in the package. Fertilab Barcelona lists one egg freezing cycle at 2,570 euros, covering follow-up, egg retrieval and vitrification, with free storage for three years, and a two-cycle pack at 4,195 euros. Institut Marquès lists a single-cycle package at 2,695 euros with two years of storage, and a two-cycle package at 4,995 euros with three years. Both are clinic price lists, and neither itemises medication.
- One cycle with storage included: about 2,570 euros (Fertilab) or 2,695 euros (Institut Marquès).
- Two cycles: 4,195 euros (Fertilab) or 4,995 euros (Institut Marquès).
- Procedure estimates across Spain: 3,500 to 4,700 euros, described as including all necessary techniques (Fertility Clinics Abroad, a clinic-matching site).
- Advertised package average in Spain: about 2,538 euros, ranging from 1,500 to 2,995 euros (Seen Fertility, updated 26 November 2025).
- Average price in Spain: 2,932 euros, with a stated range of 350 to 3,394 euros (123.clinic, October 2026).
The sources overlap but are not consistent. The 123.clinic page lists a Barcelona clinic from 350 euros without explaining what that covers, and its own highest clinic price exceeds its stated maximum, so treat the low end with caution. Seen Fertility and Fertility Clinics Abroad both note that packages often exclude the stimulation medication.
What is usually not included in the price?
Medication, storage after the included period, and everything that happens when you want to use the eggs. Fertility Clinics Abroad puts stimulation medication at 800 to 1,200 euros and says it may reach 1,000 euros or more, while Seen Fertility gives 1,000 to 1,400 euros where it is not bundled. Storage after the included years is about 400 to 500 euros a year according to Fertility Clinics Abroad and 200 to 500 euros according to Seen Fertility.
- Stimulation medication: roughly 800 to 1,400 euros.
- Storage beyond the included years: roughly 200 to 600 euros a year.
- Thawing, fertilisation, embryo culture and transfer: charged separately when you use the eggs (Fertility Clinics Abroad, Seen Fertility).
- Travel and accommodation if you do not live in Barcelona: Fertility Clinics Abroad says plan for up to two weeks.
- Extra cycles if too few eggs are collected.
Institut Marquès offers interest-free financing and mentions additional costs for annual storage without giving the amount, so ask for it in writing. For the wider picture on fertility treatment costs, see our guide to IVF costs and egg donation in Barcelona.
What does the process involve, and what do the numbers say about success?
A cycle takes about two to three weeks, and results depend heavily on age and on how many eggs are collected. The UK regulator, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), says hormone injections boost egg production, the eggs are collected under sedation or anaesthetic and frozen by vitrification, most patients under 38 have about 7 to 14 eggs collected, thawed eggs must be fertilised by ICSI, and the major risk is that it will not work. It lists ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome as a potentially serious risk of the drugs.
Institut Marquès says vitrification works best before 35 and that women over 38 may have lower success rates. Seen Fertility cites a general cohort study giving about a 45 per cent live-birth chance when 15 or more eggs are frozen, against about 13 per cent with fewer, which is not Spain-specific data, and the HFEA page does not give percentages. Ask any clinic for its own results by age and for live births, not only pregnancies. The HFEA page dates from 2016, so check current UK guidance if you plan to bring eggs back to the UK, since the HFEA cannot regulate treatment abroad.
What does Spanish law say about frozen eggs?
Women over 18 with full legal capacity can use assisted reproduction regardless of marital status, and using cryopreserved eggs requires prior authorisation from the health authority. Spain's assisted reproduction law (Ley 14/2006, articles 6 and 11, in the consolidated text on the BOE website last updated in 2015) says the woman must give written consent and be informed of the risks of motherhood at a clinically inadequate age. Oocytes may be stored until the medical team, with a favourable opinion from independent specialists, judges that she no longer meets the clinical requirements for use.
A change is being discussed. Menorca.info reported on 23 April 2026 that Congress had admitted for consideration a bill by the Socialist Party which would allow oocytes to be stored for the holder's lifetime and destruction on the holder's own statement, matching the rules for sperm. It is a proposal, not an enacted law, and the article's own headline overstates its status, so ask your clinic what rules apply to your consent and storage today.
What should I ask a clinic before booking?
- What is the total price for one cycle including medication, monitoring and storage, in writing?
- How many years of storage are included, and what does each extra year cost?
- What are your results for my age band, as live births per frozen egg?
- What happens if too few eggs are collected, and is a second cycle discounted?
- What will thawing, fertilisation and transfer cost when I use the eggs?
- Can the eggs be transferred to another clinic or country, and at what cost?
- Will consultations and consent forms be in English?
