Moving Within Barcelona: Movers' Costs, Hourly Rates and Permits (2026)

What a local move in Barcelona costs in 2026 by flat size and by the hour, which extras raise the price, street permits and your rights if items are damaged.

The short answer

In 2026 a local move within Barcelona typically costs about 400 to 1,000 euros for a two-bedroom flat, or roughly 55 to 110 euros an hour for a crew, but the five price guides compared here disagree. Extras such as a lift platform, packing and weekends add to the bill, and hidden damage must be reported within seven days of delivery.

A local move within Barcelona in 2026 typically costs about 400 to 1,000 euros for a two-bedroom flat, or roughly 55 to 110 euros an hour for a crew with a van or truck. Those ranges come from five 2026 price guides that do not agree with each other, and most do not say whether VAT is included. This guide shows the ranges side by side, the extras that change the total, what to ask about street permits and what the rules say if something is damaged. All of the sources are commercial price guides, so use them to sanity-check quotes, not as an official tariff.

How much does a local move in Barcelona cost in 2026?

The price depends mainly on how much you own, which is why several guides price by volume in cubic metres. The ranges below are for a local move inside Barcelona, as published in 2026 by Barcelona Hoy (published 28 August, with figures attributed to a moving company), Mudanzas Juan (modified 11 June), Mudanzas y Barcelona (updated August) and Cajeando (updated 4 March).

  • Studio: 250 to 450 euros up to 40 square metres (Barcelona Hoy), or 180 to 320 euros (Mudanzas y Barcelona).
  • One bedroom: 300 to 500 euros for 10 to 15 cubic metres (Mudanzas Juan), or 250 to 450 euros (Mudanzas y Barcelona).
  • Two bedrooms: 450 to 700 euros (Barcelona Hoy), 400 to 700 euros (Mudanzas y Barcelona) or 600 to 1,000 euros for 20 to 25 cubic metres (Mudanzas Juan).
  • Three bedrooms: 600 to 1,000 euros (Mudanzas y Barcelona), 700 to 1,200 euros for three or four bedrooms (Barcelona Hoy) or 1,200 to 1,500 euros for 30 to 40 cubic metres (Mudanzas Juan).
  • Four bedrooms or a house: 900 to 1,600 euros (Mudanzas y Barcelona), or from 1,200 euros (Barcelona Hoy).

Cajeando does not price by flat size, but puts a typical local move in Barcelona at 600 to 1,200 euros, about 15 to 20 per cent more than in medium-sized cities, and notes that crane use and access restrictions push Barcelona prices up. The gap between guides is wide enough that a quote at the top of one range can sit below the bottom of another, so collect at least three written quotes for the same inventory before comparing.

What do movers charge per hour in Barcelona?

Hourly crews are priced by the number of movers and the size of the vehicle, usually with a minimum of two or three hours. One price guide that does not show a year, MudanzasYa, lists two movers with a van at 55 to 75 euros an hour (two to three hours minimum) and three movers with a truck at 75 to 110 euros an hour (three hours minimum), with an extra mover at 22 to 35 euros an hour, all excluding VAT.

Habitissimo, updated on 10 June 2026 and drawing on 173,685 quote requests, gives a Spain-wide range of 40 to 80 euros an hour for a crew, with each extra worker adding the same amount. Mudanzas Juan lists a van with a driver at 25 to 60 euros an hour and extra operators at 20 to 35 euros an hour. Mudanzas Juan also notes that large moves usually need a closed, fixed price to avoid surprises, while hourly pricing suits small, simple jobs. If you choose hourly, ask when the clock starts and whether travel time is billed.

Which extras and surcharges change the price?

Extras can add a third or more to a basic quote, and the sources again give different figures. Barcelona Hoy says each extra, such as packing, a lift platform, furniture assembly or storage, adds roughly 15 to 40 per cent to the base budget.

  • Lift platform for buildings with no usable lift: 90 to 220 euros (Mudanzas y Barcelona), or 200 to 250 euros minimum, or 60 to 80 euros an hour (MudanzasYa).
  • Professional packing: 150 to 400 euros (Mudanzas y Barcelona), or 150 to 350 euros (MudanzasYa).
  • Furniture disassembly and assembly: 80 to 250 euros (Mudanzas y Barcelona), or 120 to 280 euros (MudanzasYa).
  • Same-day or urgent move: 20 to 40 per cent extra (Mudanzas y Barcelona), or 10 to 20 per cent for weekends and urgent jobs (Mudanzas Juan).
  • Peak season: demand rises from June to September, and Habitissimo says a one-bedroom move can cost about a third more in July or August.
  • Moves beyond the city: 10 to 20 per cent more for the metropolitan area, 15 to 40 kilometres out (Mudanzas y Barcelona).
  • Storage: 10 to 30 euros per cubic metre (Cajeando), or 10 to 25 euros per cubic metre per month (MudanzasYa).

Barcelona Hoy also advises checking whether the quote includes VAT, asking for a fixed price rather than an estimate, and booking early because the end of the month and weekends tend to cost more. Cajeando adds that Barcelona's low-emission zone means companies need newer vehicles, so ask whether the van is allowed to enter the zone.

Do I need a permit to park a moving van on the street in Barcelona?

If the truck occupies street space, a street-use permit from Barcelona's city council may be required, and the sources disagree on the fee. Mudanzas Juan, citing council tariffs, lists 14.90 euros for half a day or 29.80 euros for a full day for a truck, multiplied by a factor of 1 to 5 depending on the street category, plus 43.99 euros for a reserved space with a lift platform, applied for at least five working days ahead, with an exemption for simple moves in a van of up to 3,500 kilograms. None of the other guides states a permit fee at all, so treat even this figure as unconfirmed.

These figures come from commercial websites, not from the city, so confirm the current rules with the Ajuntament before you book. Ask each mover whether the permit is included in the quote and who applies for it. If you are renting a flat, see our renting guide for the deposit and contract steps that come with moving in.

What are my rights if something is damaged or the move goes wrong?

Consumo Responde, the consumer service of the Junta de Andalucía, sets out national rules for hiring a removal company. It is not a Catalan source, so Barcelona's own consumer office can confirm how the rules apply locally.

  • Written contract: it should name both parties, describe the services and goods, give the dates and places, state the total price including taxes and be signed by both sides.
  • Insurance: the company must tell you that you can insure the goods. Barcelona Hoy suggests also checking that the company holds civil liability insurance.
  • Liability limits: for delay, liability is capped at the transport price. For loss or damage it is capped by a formula tied to the national IPREM index per cubic metre, and the page quotes an older figure, so check the current one.
  • Visible damage: record it in writing at delivery. Hidden damage must be reported within seven days of delivery, excluding Sundays and holidays, and delay claims within 21 days.
  • Payment: pay once the goods have arrived at the destination, unless you agreed otherwise in writing.
  • Quotes: a company may charge for preparing a quote you do not accept, so ask first whether it is free.

Hourly pricing tends to suit small, simple moves, while a fixed price gives more certainty for a full home. Ask when the clock starts, whether travel time counts and what the minimum is.
